Visit exhibition of Ivan Meštrović: Corporeality and Eroticism in Sculpture

  From Februar 13. to May 20, 2018 Cankarjev Dom, Ljubljana An artist of authentic figural expressiveness, the idiosyncratic Slavic genius attained broader European recognition early on in his career, holding a succession of resoundingly successful exhibitions in the artistic capitals of the world in the 1920s and ‘30s. Within the context of Slovenian art, it is interesting to note that Meštrović was a long-standing acquaintance of architect Jože Plečnik and, most importantly, that numerous young Slovenian sculptors specialised under Meštrović at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb where he taught from 1922.  

Ljubljana Castle, a Unique View of the City

  At the Ljubljana Castle, you can experience history in the twelve-minute projection Virtual Castle, at the permanent exhibitions Slovenian History, The Penitentiary and iLjubljana, at the Museum of Puppetry, on the illustrative guided tours “Time Machine – From Emona to a City Symbol” and “Behind Bars – The History of Punishment at the Ljubljana Castle”, through the audio guide system or the mobile application Nexto, or on any of the other guided tours through the Ljubljana Castle. You can even save a dragon in the fun adventure game Escape Castle. Every day of the year, you can ascend from the very centre of the city to the Castle Hill on the panoramic funicular railway in just one minute. Galerija Fotografija

Established in 2003, the Galerija Fotografija is the first private gallery in Slovenia dedicated solely to fine art photography. Located in the old Ljubljana city center, the Galerija Fotografija aims to popularize high-quality photography of established Slovene and international artists. Alongside up to nine annual exhibitions, the gallery also organizes lectures, round tables, and project presentations. The gallery entered the international art market in 2009, participating at the Vienna art fair, and continuing in at Paris Photo, MIA, ArtParis, Fotofever, Photo Basel… The gallery also runs a bookshop focused on photography literature.  

Cankarjev dom

Cankarjev dom (CD) is Slovenia`s largest culture and congress centre. It presents, produces, co-produces, organises and provides cultural and artistic, congress and other events, state ceremonies, exhibitions and festivals. Since CD is mostly a cultural centre, over two thirds of the available halls are annually reserved for culture and the arts.
