1. Venice Carnival 2020 / 8th February – 25th February 2020

In less then 3 hours long drive from Ljubljana you can be in another World.  The unique city Venice is an absolute bucket list place to visit and it’s filled with things to do and see. This time of the year you can leap into a bygone era of late night balls, galas, masquarade and mystery at the historic Venice Carnival! Something is for sure: Venice Carnival is just something else!

The majority of the festivities take place in the centre of Venice, with elaborate parades full of floats literally floating through the city’s seemingly endless canal system. The Piazza San Marco transforms into a huge circus that plays host to shows and workshops during the day and live music and DJ sets in the evening. You can also join in the festivities by entering one of the daily ‘Best Mask’ competitions.

But don’t forget: even if you are visiting Venice just for the carnival you can do other fun things too. Romantics (for example) can choose Gondola ride around the canals –  a dream way to view the architecture and culture that’s dispersed around the city. In the old city centre you’ll also find some amazing art museums and plenty of »coffee and pasta« spots.

Life is a party so dress like it! The Ljubljana Castle and their dance floor have for many years been attracting dancers to unforgettable events that are thematically flavoured and suitable for all dance tastes. The first dance evening – on carnival Saturday (masks of all shapes and sizes are very welcome)– will be the already traditional opportunity for anyone who wants to spin in the rhythms of salsa, bachata, kizomba, and much more. Hint: there will also be plenty for fans of standard dances.

3. Dragon carnival / 22.2.2020 at 11:00

Let’s not forget about our little ones! They will love the DRAGON CARNIVAL organised in the old city centre of Ljubljana. The Dragon parade represents amazing show through the city’s streets. A programme of entertainment is held in the centrally located Kongresni trg square. The carnival parade includes, among others, a number of typical Slovenian carnival figures rooted in pagan tradition, such as ‘kurent’, ‘laufar’, ‘morostar’ and several others.
